Source: Tulsa World, Okla.mini storageOct. 28--Coming into Saturday's game against Texas Tech, Oklahoma wide receiver Jalen Saunders had gone over the 50-yard mark just once all season. That was a 60-yard effort against West Virginia Sept. 7. The big-play wideout of 2012 was due, and he finally broke though in Saturday's second quarter. That's when Saunders caught five passes for 136 yards and a pair of touchdowns to help stake OU to a 14-7 lead. His 15-yard score capped a 97-yard drive which tied the game. His 76-yarder off a play-action deep-post route made it 14-7 going into halftime."Just pitch and catch," Saunders said. "That's how I look at it, just like practice. You practice like you play. It comes like that sometimes."Saunders made six catches for 153 yards, all in the opening half. That marked the biggest half for an OU receiver since Ryan Broyles put 165 yards on Iowa State in 2010.Money team: One of the first keys to victory, as pointed out by coach Bob Stoops Saturday night, was OU's 7-of-14 success on third down against a defense noted for its third-down toughness."We pride ourselves on winning third down," Texas Tech linebacker Braden Jackson said. "That's what we call 'money down.' Today we didn't get paid."The Sooners did, thanks in large part to Saunders.Bell went to him to convert three third downs on that 97-yard drive, OU's longest of the season. Saunders also converted a third-and-8 with his 17-yard catch in the first quarter. The Sooners faced third-and-3 twice during their two third-quarter touchdown drives. They handed to Brennan Clay both times, and both times Clay picked up 3 yards.Job share: Damien Williams was OU's leading rusher for the second straight week, finisself storageing with a season-high 97 yards on 19 carries. On a night the Sooners ran it 50 times for 277 yards, Williams had some help.Roy Finch had 8 carries, all in the second half, for 55 yards. Clay added 42 yards on 11 tries."It shows why we have two or three backs," Stoops said. "Everybody wants to have one guy in there the whole time. When those guys are running hard they need spelled. When you have a 10- or 12-play drive running the ball, you're gonna have different guys carrying the ball. I thought they complemented each other really well."The Sooners also mixed in some quarterback run game, and Bell responded with 9 carries for 44 yards.Bend but don't break: Texas Tech had the ball eight times in Saturday's first half. The Red Raiders ran plays on OU's side of the field on six of those possessions. All they scored, however, was 7 points. The Red Raiders advanced to the OU 34 on their second drive, until a personal foul combined with an Eric Striker/Geneo Grissom sack set them back. They made it to the OU 26 on drive number three, when an offensive pass interference penalty threw them into reverse.Tech scored on its fourth drive, then the Sooners started making their own luck with their backs against the wall.Grissom's tipped pass stopped the Red Raiders on third down from the 38 early in the second quarter. Later, Quentin Hayes forced a Jace Amaro fumble that Aaron Colvin recovered on the OU 24. Pressure by Striker and Dominique Alexander stamped out Tech's final push into Sooners territory in the half, the drive stalling at the OU 29.Copyright: ___ (c)2013 Tulsa World (Tulsa, Okla.)
