Audio: link.mini storagemingpao.com/15230.htmMy name is Milos Metzar. I am aEuropean sculptor. I make figures ofpeople from stone. If I speak honestly,I must tell you I am not a very goodsculptor. Few people buy what I make, and I was poor for many years. Thenlast year, I suddenly became quite richafter someone visited my home. The visitor was a young millionairefrom my city. Arriving in his big car, heasked to see The Student. Now, TheStudent is my stone statue of a schoolboy reading his books. I have neversold this figure. People say it lookswrong, and some people tell me Ishould break it up and throw it away! Ispent many months making it and Idon't want to throw it away. It hadbeen in the window of my bedroom forabout 15 years. I had stopped trying tosell it.The rich young man asked to seeThe Student. He did not want to buy it,but he wanted to pay me for it. Pay butnot buy? How strange! I asked himwhy. The rich young man told me hisstory, "As a boy I lived near here. Icould see the figure in your room in theevening when the light was on. Thefigure was always there. I thought hewas a boy like me. My father thoughthe was a good example for me. Hepromised me a fine present if I studiedas long every evening as this 'boy' did.Wanting a fine present, I did just that! Istudied and studied. Soon I began tostudy not for the fine present, butstudied because迷你倉I wanted to studylonger than this strange 'boy' in thewindow. Of course I did better andbetter at school. In a few months I wastop of my class, then the star boy atmy school. I never knew who this 'boy'was. Once or twice I asked peoplewho he was, but nobody knew him, ofcourse! My father gave me my present — anice camera. He promised me anotherpresent if I continued to study so hard. This was easy. I was fighting that 'boy'in the window! A year later the nextpresent came. The present was a smalltelescope. It was a strange present, Ithought. I was not so interested inbird-watching or the stars. When Iasked my father why he had given mesuch a gift, he smiled and said I wouldsoon know the answer.A few days later the telescopeshowed me the truth. For two years Ihad copied a statue. Now I understoodwhy my father had given me thetelescope. He knew of the secret ofthat boy in the window! I was a littleangry with my father for a fewminutes. He had made a fool of me.But I quickly remembered I was nowthe star of my school. In fact, I had justheard I might have a scholarship tostudy in America. No, I should thankmy father, I thought. Now, so manyyears later I want to thank you, MilosMetzar."The rich young man asked me tokeep The Student in the window. Hehoped that other young people mightsee the "boy". He might change theirlives too.by Philip Popescu文件倉
